Laser Treatment
Laser therapy is not a new form of therapy in the medical world, but it is relatively new for the treatment of urogynecologic conditions. Many different pelvic floor conditions can benefit from laser treatments. There are several different laser treatments on the market currently, and discussion with your urogynecologist can help determine which one is right for you.
One of the favored lasers for the female pelvic floor is the diVa hybrid fractional laser by Sciton. Only diVa utilizes Hybrid Fractional Laser (HFL) technology. The diVa laser delivers two laser beams at once to the vaginal wall, providing a synergistic effect. The first laser deeply resurfaces the tissue layers, replacing it with improved quality tissue. The second laser heats the layers where collagen exists. This dual laser technique provokes the body’s natural healing response to lay down new collagen, and thus improve the health of the vagina. The diVa is also unique in that it is the only laser on the market that can be customized in both depth of laser penetration and percentage of tissue treated, truly allowing physicians a customizable approach to addressing their patients’ pelvic floor needs.
diVa is an innovative treatment option for vaginal conditions that may not have any other treatment options available. For example, breast cancer survivors who are unable to use estrogen may suffer from vaginal dryness, irritation or narrowing, leading to discomfort during intercourse. Prior to the vaginal laser option, there were essentially no treatment options available. Fellowship-trained urogynecologists throughout the country have been utilizing the diVa with amazing results for these women.
diVa may be a treatment option for the following conditions:
- Dyspareunia (painful intercourse)
- Vaginal scar tissue
- Vaginal laxity (relaxation of the pelvic floor/fallen bladder, e.g.)
- Urinary incontinence
